Brutal Assault 2027: The 30th anniversary begins with a devastating first announcement!
One of Europe’s most respected extreme metal festivals is already preparing for a very special edition. Brutal Assault 2027 will celebrate the festival’s 30th anniversary from August 4 to 7, 2027, once again taking over the historic Josefov Fortress in Jaroměř, Czech Republic.
The first wave of confirmed bands has just been revealed, and it already makes clear that the festival has no intention of slowing down for such an important milestone. With legendary acts, influential names and some of the most exciting bands from the current metal scene, Brutal Assault has delivered a first announcement worthy of its anniversary.
Three very different headliners
Leading the first announcement are Mercyful Fate, Children of Bodom and The Sisters of Mercy, three bands representing very different sides of heavy and alternative music.
Few names could be more appropriate for a Brutal Assault anniversary than Mercyful Fate. The Danish heavy metal legends have influenced generations of musicians and remain one of the fundamental names behind the development of extreme metal.
Children of Bodom will bring their distinctive combination of melodic death metal, power metal and virtuoso musicianship to Josefov. Their legacy remains enormous, and their return to the stage has been one of the most anticipated developments for fans of the Finnish band’s music.
Meanwhile, The Sisters of Mercy will provide a completely different atmosphere. The British gothic rock legends have maintained a unique position within alternative music for decades, once again demonstrating Brutal Assault’s willingness to move beyond the traditional boundaries of metal.

Extreme metal takes centre stage
The rest of the first announcement is packed with essential names for fans of extreme metal.
Carcass, Dismember, Benediction, Hypocrisy, Defleshed and DevilDriver are among the confirmed death metal representatives, bringing together different generations and approaches to one of metal’s most aggressive genres.
The black metal side of the bill is equally impressive, with Emperor, Mgła, Azarath and Towards the Sinister already confirmed. Belphegor and Kanonenfieber add further shades of darkness and extremity to an already formidable lineup.
Modern metal will also have a strong presence through bands such as Shadow of Intent, Make Them Suffer, Malevolence, Left To Suffer and Sylosis, ensuring that the anniversary edition is not simply looking towards the past.
A lineup without boundaries
As has become customary at Brutal Assault, the first announcement goes well beyond a single definition of heavy music.
Dethklok will bring their unique animated-metal spectacle to Josefov, while Destruction and Suicidal Angels will represent the thrash metal side of the festival. Insanity Alert will add their crossover attack to the mix.
The announcement also includes more alternative and experimental territory, with Igorrr, The Obsessed, Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats, Mucky Pup and John 5 among the confirmed names.
The first batch is completed by acts including Norther, Perchta, Plebeian Grandstand, PeelingFlesh and John Bush, adding even more variety to an already remarkably diverse bill.
Thirty years of Brutal Assault
For three decades, Brutal Assault has built a reputation as one of Europe’s most distinctive metal festivals. Its location is an essential part of that identity.
The festival takes place inside the Josefov Fortress in Jaroměř, an imposing 18th-century military complex that provides a setting unlike almost any other major European festival. The stages, walls and historic architecture create an atmosphere that has become inseparable from the Brutal Assault experience.
For its 30th anniversary, the festival appears determined to celebrate precisely that identity: a place where extreme metal, different generations of musicians and a remarkably broad range of styles can coexist.
And this is only the beginning.
With Mercyful Fate, Children of Bodom, The Sisters of Mercy, Carcass, Emperor, Dismember, Hypocrisy, Dethklok, Destruction, Benediction, Belphegor, Mgła, Shadow of Intent, Malevolence and many more already confirmed, Brutal Assault 2027 has delivered an exceptionally strong opening statement.
More bands are still expected to be announced, meaning that the final lineup could become one of the most ambitious in the festival’s history.
