Last month, the JUNO award winners released a re-recorded version of a fan favorite to flex the cosmic muscle of their new lineup. Today, these hard-rocking Canucks are releasing another re-recording. Only this time, they&#8217;re tuning up an old bonus track that&#8217;s turned into a set list staple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Listen to the re-recorded version of <strong><em>Built To Die<\/em><\/strong> below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Anciients - &quot;Built to Die (Re-recorded)&quot; (Official Audio) 2024\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FpLk_KsNUZM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Anciients <\/strong>first came into existence back in 2011, though <strong>Kenny Cook<\/strong> (vocals, guitar), <strong>Chris Dyck<\/strong> (guitar) and <strong>Aaron <em>Boon<\/em> Gustafson<\/strong> (bass) had already played in a band together. Their potent chemistry, joined with drummer <strong>Mike Hannay<\/strong>, spilled over into <strong><em>Heart Of Oak<\/em><\/strong>, which landed the band an opening slot on tour with <strong>Lamb Of God<\/strong>, as well as on the long list for a JUNO and the 2013 Polaris Music Prize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After their second album, <strong><em>Voice Of The Void<\/em><\/strong>, won a JUNO in 2018 for Metal\/Hard Music Album of the Year, <strong>Anciients <\/strong>underwent several line-up changes. They&#8217;re now joined by bassist <strong>Rory O&#8217;Brien<\/strong> and <strong>Brock MacInnes <\/strong>on rhythm guitar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Built To Die<\/em><\/strong> tests the horsepower of <strong>Anciient<\/strong>&#8216;s new engine. A fuzz guitar revs right out of the gate, as if shot out of a cannon by the song&#8217;s gargantuan opening roar. What follows is a neck-and-neck drag race between that garage rock riff and double bass kicks that pump with the speed and precision of twin-cylinder pistons. \u00ab<em>Goodbye friends \/ Hello death<\/em>\u00ab, sings <strong>Cook <\/strong>with a throat full of melody before he&#8217;s swallowed by the low-end&#8217;s greasy chug.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00ab<em>We&#8217;re excited to share a re-recorded version of &#8216;Built To Die<\/em>&#8216;\u00bb, says <strong>Cook<\/strong>. \u00ab<em>This was the first song written for Anciients, so it seemed like a fun idea to record it again with our current lineup. It was originally recorded by Shawn Penner for our Snakebeard EP way back in 2011. It was a great experience to bring it back to life, but this time with Jesse Gander producing it. It was a trip down memory lane working on this song, a decade later, with producer Jesse Gander at the helm again.
